FAFSA - The Free Application for Federal Student Aid
Why File a FAFSA?
This application is used to determine a student's eligibility for virtually all types of financial aid for higher education, and it must be completed each academic year. The form collects household and financial information from students and their families. Completing a FAFSA is often required before a student can be considered for scholarships and other nonfederal aid sources such as institutional and private scholarships and aid programs.
What You Should Know
- You must file the FAFSA to receive most types of college financial aid.
- The FAFSA form is used by the federal government, state governments, and most institutions and foundations to determine your eligibility for financial aid.
- The FAFSA form may be filed online using an electronic PIN for signature or by submitting a paper signature page. We recommend using the electronic PIN signature for a faster response.
