2019 CTE LC Convening: An Annual Learning and Networking Opportunity for ECMC Foundation Fellows

October 2019, Washington, DC

November 01, 2019

The CTE Leadership Collaborative (CTE LC), a special initiative of ECMC Foundation’s Career Readiness focus area, brings together diverse perspectives and equips leaders in career and technical education (CTE) with the tools, resources and skills needed to advance the field by identifying targeted solutions that address specific challenges facing the field of postsecondary CTE today. As part of this action, ECMC Foundation hosts an annual CTE LC Convening (LC Convening) for ECMC Foundation Fellows to spark and facilitate collaboration.

ECMC Foundation held its inaugural LC Convening on October 23 and 24, 2019 in Washington, DC. The event brought together 35 ECMC Foundation Fellows, members of the first cohorts selected by ECMC Foundation grantee partners North Carolina State University (NCSU) and the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE). At the time of the Convening, Institute for Citizens & Scholars (C&S) was awarded a grant to support media Fellows; while Fellows were not identified at the time of the Convening, program staff from C&S were in attendance.

Nine speakers provided their insights on the state of CTE, research, practice and philanthropy. Martin van der Werf from Georgetown’s Center for Education and the Workforce (CEW) gave the keynote for the event.

Representatives from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Greater Washington Community Foundation, the Institute for Education Sciences and Siemens Foundation were invited to present on how to obtain philanthropic funding in a panel moderated by Lynn Alvarez, Vice President, Programs and Strategy at ECMC Foundation.

Representatives from ECMC Foundation grantees MDRC, City University of New York, Achieving the Dream and American Institutes for Research presented on the connections to research and practice. The panel was moderated by Patrick Bourke, Program Officer at ECMC Foundation.
