Meet Lynn Alvarez: ECMC Foundation’s New Vice President of Programs and Strategy

July 23, 2019

By Mai P. Tran, ECMC Foundation

This July, the ECMC Foundation team welcomed Lynn Alvarez as its first vice president.

Lynn will be instrumental to the growth of the Foundation, which recently reached its fifth year anniversary in philanthropy. With a background across philanthropy, law and public service, Lynn brings her expertise in  grants/investments, project management,  evaluation and staff training. In this Q&A, meet the Foundation’s newest leadership team member.

Q: If there is one word to describe you, what would that be?

Straightforward (or is that actually two words squeezed into one?)

Q: What are you most passionate about when it comes to postsecondary education?

I am passionate about what postsecondary education can do to help individuals and their communities create opportunities that were previously closed to them.

Q: What is your favorite book and why?

This is a tough one. I love all types of books, but for sentimental reasons I would pick anything by Willa Cather. Her books are beautifully written and evocative; and they were the first books my mom and I discovered together.

Q: If there was one thing you could tell your younger self, what would that be?

Slow down and enjoy the moment.

Q: What is your advice for students pursuing their educational goals?

Seek mentors and ask for help.
